How I Didn’t Deal With First Round of Medication.

In the beginning, there was pain.  Then, Doctor said, “Let us medicate”.  And the medicine was NOT good!  Probably because the doctor was human, just don’t tell him that.  First round was a mix of Flexeril and Motrin.  Flexeril is a muscle relaxant with the side effects of fatigue, dizziness, and constipation; which I have to say is a real interesting combination.  You may not need the bathroom often, but when you do getting there is half the battle.  The other half of the battle, well that’s no picnic.  Motrin is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory that is an over the counter medicine; because of that, most people tend to think that makes it safe.  It’s not.  It’s a nightmare on your stomach and can cause nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation (oh yeah, combined with Flexeril and not forewarned, just great) and dizziness (yep, we’ve seen that before also).  So now I’m sleepy, backed up, not really better, and of course a barrel of laughs to be around.

Round two, ding!  Steroid shots right back into the, well, back.  The first shots were blind, meaning they just put the needle where it should hurt; sorry, help.  Later, after two of those, the next three of my shots were done under fluoroscopy so they can see the needle going six, then nine, inches from the point of skin contact, down into the joint of the spine.  That was so enjoyable.  Okay, maybe enjoyable is not the correct word; but I like to keep this a family friendly blog.  Again, the only thing the shots did were to add pressure to the joint of my spine which was already feeling like there was too much pressure, so not sure how that was suppose to help; but apparently it does help some.  I don’t know if the first, second, third, or fifth shot helps someone, but apparently it helps someone

Now along with this I was sent to physical therapy and was applying ice to the affected area as well.  Still, nothing seemed to be working.  How about you?  Do these medicines sound familiar?  Were you told about the side effects?  All of them?  The combination of the medications?  How did your first round of medication go?

  2. I think all physicians must take any treatment or medication that they prescribe before they can give it to a patient.
